Birch State Park, a look into historic Fort Lauderdale's flora and fauna, is directly across the street from the Bonnet House. For a few dollars per car you can park and hang out all day. There is a tunnel to the beach so you don't have to worry about traffic (or expensive beach parking), you can bike their path along the water, rent kayaks, and even pick up the Fort Lauderdale Beach Segway Tour.
By the way, this park is where John proposed. ♥

Perfect for children of ALL ages. There's a huge IMAX theater, and tons of fascinating exhibits from the human body to space including a simulated ride to Mars, a boat ride through the "Everglades", and lots of live animals like Florida spiders, scorpions, fish, turtles, and alligators. There is so much to do and see, and being right downtown on Riverwalk means a full day of exploration and excitement. Kids have a great time here, but you certainly don't need to be one to enjoy the museum.
